[ CASE STUDY 01 // MATCHDAY ]

Richmond Basketball Broadcast Workflow

Challenge: Delivering a high-standard, engaging live broadcast for professional women’s basketball fixtures inside a high-activity indoor arena. The broadcast required multi-camera game coverage, live graphics, replay channels, scoreboards, and commentary mixed with arena audio, all to be deployed and configured within a short pre-game setup window.

Solution: We engineered a high-efficiency matchday production workflow using a centralized vMix system. We integrated direct serial-to-IP scoreboard links (to overlay real-time clocks/shot clocks), set up commentary consoles with Dante audio links to keep voice feeds isolated from ambient arena noise, and ran dedicated SDI/NDI camera lines to capture gameplay from multiple angles.

Workflow Architecture:

  • Primary cameras: Manned wide game cam + close tight cam.
  • Robotics: Under-hoop PTZ cameras with preset positioning shortcuts.
  • Scoreboard: Digital data parser sync overlaying live scoreboard data.
  • Audio: Dante network feeding commentary headsets and court ambient mics.

Outcome & Verification

A highly professional live broadcast successfully distributed to YouTube and league platforms across the season. The setup allowed the crew to build, test, and transmit the feed in under 90 minutes before tip-off.

Venue Broadcast System Design

Challenge: A club playing in a competitive league needed a permanent broadcast setup for their venue. However, the system had to be operated on game days by volunteers, media students, and part-time staff who lacked formal broadcast engineering experience.

Solution: We designed a semi-permanent broadcast system centered around an integrated console flypack rack. We wired venue camera positions using structured NDI/SDI lines and set up a custom vMix controller with highly simplified Stream Deck macro buttons, allowing complex operations (switching cameras, running replays, overlaying sponsors) to be triggered with single button presses.

System Features:

  • Central Control Console: Portable 6U flightcase containing system PC, switch, and routing.
  • Clean Cable Routing: Wall-mounted patch bays to speed up camera setups.
  • Automation: Automatic audio ducking and scoreboard clock sync protocols.
  • Operator Guides: Visual, diagram-rich matchday setup manuals.

Outcome & Verification

The system allowed the club to deliver high-quality, consistent match coverage with a 3-person volunteer crew, reducing pre-game setup times from 2 hours to just 15 minutes.

[ CASE STUDY 03 // REMOTE ]

Remote / Hybrid Production

Challenge: Producing high-end match broadcasts at remote venues with limited local production space, poor venue internet upload speeds, and high transport costs for full production crews.

Solution: We implemented a hybrid remote production (REMI) model. On-site camera operators transmit clean camera feeds and commentary signals back to a central control room in Manchester using low-latency SRT streams. The stream is mixed, graphics and replays are overlaid, and the final broadcast is transmitted to YouTube directly from the control desk.

Technical Architecture:

  • On-Site: Compact SRT encoders + bonded mobile 4G/5G routers.
  • Transmission: Multi-stream SRT transmission with secure encryption.
  • Control Room: High-spec vMix receiver station + dedicated internet lines.
  • Syncing: Sub-second audio and video synchronization algorithms.

Outcome & Verification

Allowed professional broadcast coverage to be produced from high-stress venues with only 1 or 2 operators on-site, cutting logistics costs significantly while maintaining full replay and graphics capabilities.
